Nokia and Ooredoo Collaborated to Deploy Private Wireless Networks
Nokia and Qatar’s Ooredoo have successfully reached an important milestone by establishing their first private wireless network for the energy sector in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. This is the first such project to provide dedicated voice and customer data services in the most remote and challenging areas.
The deployed solution covers the initial capacity of 20000 users in the offshore power grid. It aims to connect offshore and onshore facilities, ensuring seamless voice and data services. By providing dedicated connections, this network will enable customers to digitize and automate operations, marking an important step towards improving efficiency and productivity.
Nokia will provide tailor-made cutting-edge products to provide resilient mission critical connectivity, as well as deployment and maintenance services. Its resident engineers will provide expert support to ensure network operation at optimal levels.
This solution provides a local offshore system aimed at providing services that seamlessly integrate with existing commercial cores, enabling customers to improve operational efficiency and reduce interruptions to onshore connections. Integration can also effectively handle interoperability and service switching, making communication between offshore and onshore locations smoother and more reliable than ever before, while managing latency issues through localized data services and improving process efficiency. It will also improve customer experience by replacing old Wi Fi and WiMAX technologies.
“This important milestone emphasizes our commitment to communication solutions for challenging environmental changes. This milestone project provides dedicated voice and data services, paving the way for the oil and gas industry and other industries to replicate such solutions, marking a new era of industry connectivity,” said CTIO Gunther Ottendorfer from Ooredoo Qatar.
Samar Mittal, Vice President of Cloud and Network Services (CNS) at Nokia MEA Global Business Center (GBC), said, “This Nokia enterprise solution is designed specifically for offshore locations, and with our delivery capabilities and expertise, we ensure that the energy sector can now rely on strong and resilient connectivity solutions. Through our collaboration with Ooredoo, Qatar, we are setting new benchmarks for innovation, efficiency, and reliability.”
Nokia has deployed mission critical networks to over 2600 leading enterprise customers worldwide in transportation, energy, large enterprises, manufacturing, network scale, and the public sector. The company has also expanded its expertise to over 675 private wireless customers worldwide and has been recognized by numerous industry analysts as a leading provider of global private industrial grade wireless networks.
