TPG Telecom and Ericsson Complete Cloud Native Core Network

TPG Telecom has successfully migrated its consumer and enterprise 4G and 5G data services to a single integrated core network provided by Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core solution.
TPG Telecom collaborates with Ericsson to establish and deliver its integrated network, which will improve the operational efficiency of the telecommunications network, enabling it to deliver new services in a shorter time and improve mobile performance.

Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core solution paves the way for faster and more frequent software upgrades to maintain the stability and security of TPG Telecom’s mobile network. It will also support solutions based on new technologies such as network slicing, low latency communication, and network exposure.
TPG Telecom’s Chief Technology Officer Giovanni Chiarelli said, “The successful migration of TPG Telecom’s 4G LTE data services to our existing Ericsson Cloud native dual-mode 5G core network marks an important milestone in our efforts to build Australia’s most innovative and advanced mobile network.”
Clinton Fick, General Manager of TPG Core Network Applications, stated: “As a true cloud native solution, the dual-mode core provides us with a platform to better support the growing customer demand for data, while also laying the foundation for mobile use cases that support future consumer and enterprise needs. It also provides us with architectural flexibility, allowing us to build mobile cores with elasticity and functional distribution to support customers’ expected high-performance goals.”
With the completion of this deployment, TPG Telecom is paving the way for other telecom companies to transition from local and virtualized data core solutions to fully integrated data traffic for all 4G LTE, 5G non independent, and 5G independent data services on Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core network.
Prior to migration, TPG Telecom’s 4G LTE data services were handled by traditional Virtual Network Functionality (VNFs) solutions.
Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core solution enables consumer and enterprise mobile network use cases, including connected cars, smart cities, virtual reality, healthcare applications, and other possibilities. All of these require the support of 5G architecture and standards to meet the constantly changing needs of enterprise and consumer segments.
The milestone in network integration represents a major step for TPG Telecom towards a fully automated lifecycle management framework, while providing the ability to dynamically expand more services based on consumer needs. This helps ensure that customers can achieve optimal performance at all times, regardless of their usage.

Emilio Romeo, head of Ericsson’s Australia and New Zealand business, stated: “The milestone integration of TPG Telecom’s 4G LTE consumer and business data services with Ericsson’s cloud native dual-mode 5G Core proves that our ongoing partnership is bringing innovation and value to the Australian market. Integrating consumer and business 4G LTE data services, as well as the upcoming integration of commercial 4G LTE services, into our cloud native core network solution that we have already provided to TPG Telecom, is a way to bring innovation and value to all Australians A crucial step for the next level of use cases, services, scalability, and reliability. I look forward to seeing all TPG Telecom customers exposed to the power and potential of Ericsson’s cloud native dual-mode 5G core technology.”
