Orange and Ericsson Offer Groundbreaking Private 5G Networks
With Orange Spain and Ericsson announcing the establishment of a new 5G dedicated network partnership, Spain’s B2B industry will be driven, marking a historic milestone in the country’s digital transformation. This is the first time that Spain has launched such cooperation, aiming to provide B2B customers in Spain with the opportunity to deploy their own private 5G network, thereby fundamentally changing the market and ensuring that enterprises can leverage the latest technological advancements to maintain a competitive advantage in their respective industries.
The introduction of dedicated 5G networks to the B2B industry has brought many benefits, including real-time automation, increased productivity, enhanced worker safety, and unparalleled security, reliability, customization, and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, many enterprises in various industries are now able to leverage these advantages and push their operations to new heights.
This breakthrough infrastructure will enable Orange Spain to provide reliable, secure, and low latency connections for B2B customers, support the adoption, use, and expansion of new data-driven technologies, while improving its 5G monetization capabilities and shortening implementation lead times.
The new dedicated network will be supported by Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core, which supports Orange 5G independent (SA) networks deployed across the country, as well as Ericsson’s local packet gateway (providing local breakthrough and other functions) deployed in B2B customer locations and other dedicated network functions.
Local breakthrough refers to the ability to directly route network traffic at customer locations, rather than sending through centralized locations, essentially providing a localized gateway for data traffic. In a dedicated network environment, this allows specific functions and services to be deployed closer to the enterprise, providing faster data processing and less latency.
The resulting improved responsiveness and customized services within dedicated networks enable enterprises to enjoy the same advantages as previously limited to dedicated dedicated networks, including superior throughput, lower latency, and access to dedicated and/or shared radio resources. These features ensure that enterprises achieve optimal performance while maintaining network security. The integrity and confidentiality of data are also guaranteed, as enterprise data is kept in the office and will not be mixed with public networks.
This innovative approach towards private networks will allow Orange to provide extended functionality of public business networks for its corporate clients. This solution will also enhance flexibility, in which case the specific needs of the company can be met by using components specifically designed for their needs.
This framework will play a crucial role in unlocking new use cases and driving innovation in industries such as logistics, transportation, automotive, and manufacturing. Especially, it will achieve real-time automation, which can greatly improve productivity and worker safety, and the enhanced security and reliability results can promote business operations. In addition, these networks provide B2B customers with more customization options and cost-effectiveness, making it easier for them to meet their unique business needs.
By utilizing public infrastructure covering both public and private networks, Orange leverages synergies to provide more competitive pricing solutions for businesses. In addition, B2B customers no longer need professional knowledge of connectivity solutions as Orange takes on the responsibility of managing the network. At the same time, this partnership enables Orange to provide dedicated and exclusive services within the coverage area, while also utilizing public networks to provide advanced services beyond corporate premises.
The management of connectivity solutions is also handled by Orange, further eliminating the need for professional knowledge within the enterprise. At the same time, Orange can now provide dedicated and exclusive services to the company within its coverage, and allow them to continue providing these advanced services using public networks when leaving the factory.
The cooperation between Orange Spain and Ericsson is based on 25 years of successful cooperation, and the two companies successfully launched Spain’s first commercial 5G SA network in February 2023.
Monica Sala, Chief Technology Officer of Orange Spain, stated: In Orange Spain, we are pleased to collaborate with Ericsson to provide groundbreaking private 5G networks and drive Spain’s digital transformation.
