Beijing Unicom and Huawei Completed First 5G-A Scale Networking Demonstration
According to Huawei’s official WeChat account, Beijing Unicom and Huawei have completed a 5G-A scale network demonstration, achieving continuous coverage of three key scenes: the city center financial street, the historical building long-distance building, and the large-scale comprehensive sports stadium Beijing Workers Stadium.
The actual road test results show that the peak downlink speed of 5G-A users reaches 10Gbps, and the continuous experience exceeds 5Gbps. It has successfully demonstrated high and low frequency coordination and flexible deployment of outdoor and indoor 5G-A devices. We have completed practical applications such as naked eye 3D, ultra-high definition shallow compression real-time production system, and XR separation rendering. This is the first 5G-A scale networking demonstration in the country, providing reference for the scale replication of 5G-A networks and applications.
At the beginning of this year, representatives from industry experts such as GSMA, TD Alliance, Omdia, China Central Radio and Television, CGTN, People’s Posts and Telecommunications, C114, Brain Pole, and others conducted a comprehensive experience of 5G-A network and toBtoC application in the 5G-A Jinrong Street scale networking demonstration area built by Beijing Unicom and Huawei, at the event of “Weilutan – Jointly Promoting the Acceleration of 5G-A Industry” hosted by the Beijing Communication Society.
In the application demonstration, based on indoor 5G-A networking in the long-distance building, naked eye 3D, ultra-high definition shallow compression real-time production system, 8K large uplink live streaming, and XR separation rendering were applied in practice. The use of uplink 4Gbps network capability demonstrated the digital transformation ability of 5G-A in media and other industries.
5G-A is a partial upgrade of 5G network in terms of functionality and coverage. 5G-A works in parallel with 5G and is responsible for supporting some application scenarios with high requirements. The positioning of 5G-A (5.5G) is aimed at addressing the issues that arise in the 5G market applications, and it is necessary to provide 5G+capabilities before the commercialization of 6G. The goal of 5G-A is not to replace 5G, but to supplement 5G in hotspot areas or specific scenarios.
