OpenAI Competitor Anthropic Launches Claude 3 Major Models
Artificial intelligence (AI) start-ups, such as Anthropic, have launched the Cloud 3 model, which can better execute complex instructions. The company claims that Claude 3 exhibits a near human understanding of complex tasks and is currently one of the most powerful large-scale models.
Claude 3 is divided into three versions, namely Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku. The names imply the capabilities of each model, with Opus being the most powerful and Haiku being the fastest and most cost-effective model on the market.
According to Anthropic, the most powerful Opus outperforms OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini Ultra in industry benchmarks, such as knowledge level, deductive reasoning, and basic mathematics.
Claude 3 is also a multimodal large model with powerful visual abilities, allowing users to upload photos, charts, documents, and other types of data for analysis and questioning.
In addition, Opus and Sonnet have been opened to 159 countries and regions on Monday, while Haiku will be launched in the coming weeks.
According to the introduction, Claude 3 can summarize approximately 150000 words, while the previous version could only summarize 75000 words. In contrast, OpenAI’s GPT-4 can handle approximately 25000 words of text.
Anthropic founders Daniela Amodei and Dario Amodei are both former senior executives of OpenAI, who was previously the Vice President of Research at OpenAI. They founded the company in 2021 with the goal of developing generative artificial intelligence models that compete with OpenAI. Its Aerospace is currently the hottest star startup company besides OpenAI.
In the past year, Antiopic has completed five different financing transactions, totaling approximately $7.3 billion. The company was valued at $18.4 billion at the end of December last year. Its investors include Google, Salesforce, and Amazon, and its products compete directly with ChatGPT in both the corporate and consumer sectors.
Daniela Amodei stated that Claude 3 has gained a more detailed understanding of issues. Due to security concerns, Claude 2 often chooses to refuse to answer sensitive questions, while Claude 3 has a better understanding of risks and can answer more questions.
Dario Amodei said in an interview, “At least at this point in time, Claude 3 is the ‘Rolls Royce’ in the big model.”
However, Dario Amodei also pointed out that although Claude 3 is a multimodal large model, it only checks and analyzes images and does not provide the function of directly generating images, as market demand has significantly decreased and customers have not requested such a feature.
