Zayo Launches New Infrastructure Upgrade Plan

Infrastructure supplier Zayo has announced its latest round of critical infrastructure upgrades. This includes significantly expanding its network connectivity products, including new wavelength lines that support 400G that no other provider can offer, expanded on-demand network capabilities, and IP core upgrades, enabling the most forward thinking and innovative companies to connect to the next target.

Since April 2024, Zayo has completed five operator diversified 400G wavelength lines. The company stated that the diversity provided by these lines is unmatched by any other provider. These expansion lines are connected to Zayo’s extensive backbone network and key unique lines throughout the country, achieving connections from north to south and from coast to coast, with flexibility and 400G capacity.

The new route includes Los Angeles to San Jose and extends to other important locations such as Salt Lake City, Portland, Dallas, and Phoenix; Chicago to St. Louis completed the north-south core route across the United States; Reno to Basto provides a critical low latency path between markets for intermediate infrastructure connecting operators, government agencies, rural areas, and enterprises with high bandwidth requirements; Columbus to Pittsburgh; And from Quebec City to Montreal.

Zayo claims to be the only major fiber optic provider in the United States currently providing 400G connectivity to Quebec City through Montreal, while also offering multiple route options for crossing the border into the United States.

The company has also expanded the 400G capacity of four lines connecting important cities such as Richmond, Cleveland, and Chicago. Zayo currently offers the largest 400G network in North America. With the completion of these lines, nearly 90% of Zayo’s North American fiber optic network currently supports 400G, and is expected to become one of the largest networks to fully support 400G by the end of 2024.

Bill Long, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Zayo, said, “Today’s businesses need to provide connectivity and experiences faster than ever before to stay competitive. In our digital business era, their networks can determine success or failure, and Zayo has built the largest independent fiber network in North America. We will continue to advance our products to ensure that our customers have a network capable of meeting future challenges. The infrastructure upgrade we are currently undertaking will continue to make our network stand out in the competition – providing fast and reliable connections in the most needed places, from first tier cities to rural markets and data centers.”
