EXATEL Chooses Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano ZR+pluggable for Multi Vendor Networks
Poland’s leading telecommunications network operator EXATEL has chosen Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano (WL5n) 400G ZR+coherent pluggable transceiver to support its multi vendor Software Defined Networking (SDN) infrastructure, the country’s first open, decomposed architecture of its kind.
Through this upgrade, EXATEL’s customers, including enterprises, government agencies, financial institutions, businesses, and service providers, will benefit from stronger, larger capacity, and ultra-low power 400G connectivity.

EXATEL has one of the largest fiber optic networks in Poland, with a total length of 23800 kilometers, connecting Poland directly to telecommunications hubs in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Kiev, Stockholm, Prague, Milan, Vienna, Marseille, and Paris, as well as to interconnection points abroad.
EXATEL has deployed Ciena’s WL5n pluggable components among multiple router vendors through an open photonics line system. Through this open and integrated IP/optical solution, EXATEL has gained advantages in cost, power consumption, space, and operational efficiency.
Combining Ciena’s advanced coherent optical technology, WL5n provides industry-leading pluggable performance for access, metropolitan area, and data center interconnect (DCI) applications, enabling 100G-400G interconnects with optimized footprint. WL5n supports interoperable 100G-400G modes, powerful performance, and power consumption of less than 20 watts per plug, which means EXATEL can ensure reliable and sustainable network performance.
Jacek Terpi ł owski, Chief Technology Officer of EXATEL, said: “We chose Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano because it provides highly reliable 400Gb/s connectivity and seamless interoperability with our own built decomposition network stack, allowing us to effectively maximize the use of fiber infrastructure while minimizing the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades. ”
Virginie Hollebecque, Vice President and EMEA Head of Ciena, said: “By providing flexibility and diversity, open network architecture enables operators like EXATEL to accelerate the development of new services and applications to meet ever-changing customer needs. EXATEL has chosen Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano (our trusted pluggable WaveLogic technology) for its high-performance, multi vendor environment, demonstrating our expertise in interoperability
