Amazon Invests $20 Billion in Pennsylvania to Expand AI Cloud Computing Infrastructure
Amazon announced plans to invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania to expand data center infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies. Salem and Falls towns will be the first locations for innovation parks. And several other communities in Pennsylvania are also in consideration. This landmark investment may create at least 1250 high skilled jobs, while supporting thousands of other positions in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center supply chain.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated, “This is the largest private sector investment in Pennsylvania’s history. Amazon’s investment will create thousands of stable, high paying jobs in Luzern County and Bucks County.” David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Global Affairs and General Counsel, said, “This investment demonstrates our commitment to driving AI innovation and creating lasting economic opportunities in Pennsylvania. “

Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $26 billion in Pennsylvania, creating over 27000 direct jobs and supporting 37100 indirect jobs. The company has also made significant investments in renewable energy in Pennsylvania through 12 solar farms and one on-site solar project.
As part of its investment plan, Amazon will collaborate with Pennsylvania education institutions and labor organizations to develop training programs related to data center construction and operation. These projects include data center operations and fiber optic technician training, fiber optic fusion seminars, and more. The company will also provide STEM education support programs for the K-12 school system, such as “We Build It Better” and “We Will Build It Better” projects.
Amazon has also launched the Amazon Northeast Pennsylvania Community Fund, promising $250000 in funding to support community projects in STEM education, sustainable development, digital skills, and other areas. The fund will be managed by the non-profit organization ChangeX and open to individuals, community groups, and schools in Luzern County and Columbia County, with a maximum grant of $10000 per project.
This investment is part of Amazon’s recent commitment to promoting generative AI and high-end cloud infrastructure across the United States. Millions of customers, including the fastest growing startups, large enterprises, and leading government agencies, rely on AWS to advance their AI processes, reduce costs, and drive innovation. Amazon is building the technological foundation for the next generation of generative and agent-based AI through strategic investments in advanced computing infrastructure and specialized AI hardware.
