Conexon Connect Builds 3500-Mile Fiber Optic Network
Conxon Connect, an Internet service provider owned by Conxon, a leader in rural fiber broadband in the United States, announced the completion of its largest FTTH project to date. This project, in collaboration with the Central Georgia EMC Power Cooperative in Jackson, Georgia, marks the completion of Connect’s eleventh project, with a total fiber optic mileage of 3500 miles and comprehensive coverage of the cooperative’s service areas in 14 counties.
The Central Georgia EMC Empowered Connect Network, completed in May this year, has enabled tens of thousands of rural households and businesses who previously lacked reliable connections to access gigabit broadband services for the first time, enabling smooth use of basic digital services such as remote healthcare, online education, and modern office. Conexon founding partner Randy Klindt said, “This milestone is not only a victory for fiber optics, but also a victory for people. Every user who connects to high-speed networks has opened the door to new opportunities.”
Symmetric network speed empowers smart grid
This advanced network infrastructure provides users with a world-class symmetrical network speed experience, with equally high uplink and downlink speeds, while supporting stable voice services. Fiber optic technology also brings smart grid upgrade dividends to the power facilities of cooperatives. George Weaver, President and CEO of Central Georgia EMC, recalls: “In 2021, we committed to achieving full broadband coverage in our service areas. When other suppliers avoided the rural market, Conexon Connect stepped forward. This cooperation not only strengthens the power grid, but also unlocks the future of optical fiber Internet for members. “
Ten year layout of rural broadband
Conexon and its Connect business focus on collaborating with power cooperatives to deploy rural fiber optic networks. By accumulating over $2 billion in funding support from various levels of government, the company has designed over 200000 miles of fiber optic lines across the United States, connecting world-class broadband to 1.1 million rural populations. Currently, Connect operates its network in seven states including Colorado and Florida, with 40 projects achieving 100% coverage of service areas.
