Nokia and CNT Jointly Launch Ecuador 5G Network

Nokia and CNT E.P. officially announced the launch of the country’s first commercial 5G network, marking a crucial step in Ecuador’s digital transformation. The new network adopts Nokia 5G technology, with a peak speed of up to 1.5 Gbps, which is 10 times that of 4G. It has extremely low latency, supports smooth videos, high-speed downloads, and more reliable global connections, bringing high-quality experiences to more Ecuadorian people. This deployment will also lay the foundation for digital services and innovation in key areas such as virtual education, remote healthcare, smart cities, smart travel, and the Internet of Things.

The construction of 5G will be on the basis of CNT’s existing 4G network, with the first batch of 188 sites opened, covering Guayaquil (the largest city in Ecuador) and places such as Sambolondo, Dole, Duran, Manta, Portoviejo, Salinas, and Santa Elena, using the 3.5 GHz frequency band (N78). The project is in line with the digital transformation policy of the Ecuadorian government and is jointly promoted by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society. The plan is to achieve nationwide high-speed coverage by mid-2026 and build a more inclusive and sustainable digital society.

CNT E.P. General Manager Ronald Spina stated, “This is a milestone in Ecuador’s technological history. The new 5G mobile network will bring faster, more stable, and secure connections to the entire country without increasing commercial tariffs. We will leverage Nokia’s advanced solutions to expand the benefits to strategic industries such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation, and improve service quality through data-driven and AI driven solutions. ”

Bruno Leite, Head of Mobile Networks for Nokia Latin America, said: “We are proud of our long-term partnership with CNT E.P. – from wireless access, IP and optical transmission to fixed networks, our solutions cover multiple areas. We believe that this 5G cooperation based on our complete Radio Access Network (RAN) solution will significantly modernize CNT’s broadband capabilities and help it build a more innovative, competitive, and highly interconnected country.”

AirScale RAN product portfolio that Nokia will provide

Pre integrated, portable, and outdoor “all-in-one” cabinet solutions that can significantly reduce energy consumption.

The latest Massive MIMO RF, baseband, and remote RF head (RRH) devices are all based on the Nokia energy-efficient ReefShark on-chip system, balancing performance, efficiency, and reliability.

CNT will also adopt the Nokia AI intelligent network management system MantaRay NM to achieve a unified network view.

In addition, Nokia will deploy flagship 7250 IXR, 7750 SR IP routers, and 1830 Versatile WDM transmission platform to provide high-speed, low latency, and low packet loss data transmission guarantees for CNT 5G networks. And through the innovative Network Service Platform (NSP), transmission network management, optimization, and network slicing automation are achieved to assist in the efficient operation of key applications such as emergency communication and smart cities. This fully meets the needs of next-generation connectivity.
