Malaysia’s U Mobile Secures $1 Billion Financing to Accelerate Deployment of 5G

Malaysia’s U Mobile has secured a ten-year syndicated financing facility worth MYR 4.3 billion (approximately USD 1.03 billion) to support its capital expenditures and operating funds for deploying Malaysia’s second 5G network infrastructure. This funding will also accelerate the nationwide expansion of U Mobile’s Ultra5G service. This service was launched in August this year, with a focus on providing excellent indoor coverage.

Financing Details and Signing Ceremony

CIMB Investment Bank serves as the exclusive loan coordinator for this financing. The financing is jointly arranged by Maybank Islamic Bank, AmBank Islamic Bank, and UOB Malaysia, with these banks serving as joint appointed lead arrangers and financing parties.

Last Friday, U Mobile officially signed this syndicated financing agreement with these four banks in Kuala Lumpur.

Accelerate 5G deployment and coverage targets

Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, pointed out that this syndicated financing proves that leading banks have strong confidence in the company’s ability to execute its 5G business plan and achieve long-term growth.

Wong stated in a statement, “The deployment of our 5G network in Malaysia began in mid-2025, and this new financing facility will further accelerate our promotion process and strengthen our commitment to driving Malaysia’s digital economy.”

He also revealed that U Mobile’s network promotion goals are currently progressing ahead of schedule. He confidently stated that the company will achieve 80% coverage in densely populated areas by the second half of 2026.

The first wholesale access agreement

Last month, U Mobile signed its first wholesale access agreement with Eastel, a new mobile virtual network operator under Anchor Communications. Eastel plans to launch its service in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2026.

This five-year contract stipulates that U Mobile will provide 5G infrastructure and 4G networks for data, voice, and SMS services to this new service provider. U Mobile will also provide international direct dialing, roaming, and mobile number portability services support for Eastel.
