Ciena Strengthens Supply Chain and Product Technology Leadership

Ciena announced the appointment of Grant Hoffman as Chief Supply Chain Officer, while Brodie Gage was transferred to Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO). Both report to President and CEO Gary Smith and join the company’s executive leadership team. These appointments will help Ciena drive innovation and product leadership while continuously expanding its business scale, thereby supporting the company’s continued growth.

Gary Smith, President and CEO of Ciena, stated, “As the demand for our technology continues to grow, our ability to expand and optimize our supply chain is crucial for delivering what our customers need. Similarly, closer synergy between product and technology strategies will enhance our ability to bring differentiated innovation to market. Grant and Brodie each bring profound expertise and leadership, which will further develop on our solid foundation and lay the foundation for sustained success.”

Chief Supply Chain Officer

Hoffman joins Ciena with over 25 years of global leadership experience, covering supply chain, operations, and product portfolio management, including large-scale transformation and digital supply chain capabilities. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Poly, responsible for end-to-end supply chain operations and global digital transformation. After Poly was acquired by HP, he joined HP as Senior Vice President of Operations and Solution Delivery, managing a global organization covering customer delivery and support, site and channel, and operations. In the early stages of his career, he held leadership positions at Google, Motorola, and Continental Group.

Grant Hoffman, the newly appointed Chief Supply Chain Officer of Ciena, said, “As artificial intelligence continues to drive the huge demand for high-performance network infrastructure, and Ciena has a clear leadership position in this field, joining Ciena at this time is exciting. Ciena has established a highly capable supply chain and enjoys a good and trustworthy reputation in terms of execution. I look forward to expanding these operational scales and further strengthening our delivery capabilities to customers.”

Chief Product and Technology Officer

As the Chief Product and Technology Officer, Gage has expanded his leadership responsibilities for the Ciena product organization to include it in the technology strategy, forming a unified scope of responsibilities. In this expanded role, he continues to lead product line management, solution engineering and introduction (SE&I), and quality departments. In addition, he will collaborate with global R&D teams to accelerate Ciena’s innovation process, promote differentiated solutions, and enhance Ciena’s industry leadership.

Gage recently served as the Senior Vice President of Global Product and Supply Chain for Ciena’s Executive Leadership Team. He has been serving as Vice President of Product Line Management and Solutions since joining the company in 2010 through Ciena’s acquisition of the North Electric Network business. Prior to this, Gage held global leadership positions in engineering, marketing, business development, and product line management at Nortel.

Brodie Gage, Chief Product and Technology Officer of Ciena, said: “Ciena’s innovation has always been built on a deep understanding of customers and the networks they build. Focusing on product leadership and technology leadership together will enable us to act faster, execute more consistently, and continuously deliver high impact solutions that meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.”
