VIAVI Launches MCP Server Framework to Expand AI Native Capabilities for Network and Security Testing

VIAVI has announced that it has integrated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server framework into NITIO®. The AI product portfolio allows engineers to configure, run, and analyze tests through natural language instructions. This framework can work in conjunction with the VIAVI TestCenter (network performance testing), CyberFlood (security and application performance testing), and TeraVM (secure access/ZTNA testing) platforms.

Traditional laboratory automation requires engineers to manually configure scripts and maintain various connections in an increasingly large ecosystem of testing and measurement tools. With the unprecedented evolution of network and security architecture, manual testing configuration and automation are becoming increasingly difficult to scale. When AI agents and agent workflows enter network and security operations, the testing infrastructure must also be able to integrate the same AI driven workflow.

VIAVI’s MCP server framework has won numerous awards and is widely recognized in the industry. This integration will further simplify the interaction between infrastructure testing tools and AI clients, and reduce the dependence on graphical interfaces, scripts, or APIs. This framework encapsulates testing functions into standardized tools that AI agents can autonomously discover and invoke through conversational instructions. By converting natural language requests into test actions, the MCP server framework shifts the validation workflow of complex testing environments from relying heavily on deep product, testing, and scripting experience to being intent and result oriented.

The MCP server framework has a built-in autonomous error correction loop that can detect and automatically correct configuration errors in testing tools. At the same time, manual audit checkpoints are set at key nodes in the testing process to ensure full controllability and safe operation. A structured AI workflow provides the necessary context for improving reliability, while real-time data allows testing to dynamically adjust as results are returned.

Sashi Jeyaretnam, Senior Director of Security Product Management at VIAVI, said, “The evolution speed of network infrastructure has exceeded the supply speed of professional talents capable of verifying it, and verification work must therefore move towards AI native. The MCP server framework helps bridge this gap by shortening testing time, reducing operating costs, and enabling a wider group of engineers to complete complex validations.”
