Adtran Expanded the SDG 8700 Series to Deliver Wi-Fi 7 at Scale
Adtran announced the expansion of its SDG 8700 series, extending Wi-Fi 7 coverage to a broader range of residential service tiers and deployment models. The updated product portfolio introduces new 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s Wi-Fi 7 platforms, designed to support a full range of multi-gigabit services from entry-level to high-end tiers, covering deployment scenarios such as residential, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), multi-dwelling units (MDUs), and community Wi-Fi. As service providers enter a new cycle of access equipment refresh, Wi-Fi 7 is rapidly transitioning from a premium differentiator to a baseline configuration requirement. The expanded SDG 8700 product portfolio enables providers to deploy next-generation Wi-Fi more broadly and consistently without compromising user experience or altering operational models. This product launch also builds on the recent conditional approval by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for Adtran’s SDG product portfolio, supporting the continued advancement of broadband deployment.

Adtran’s Chief Technology Officer Christoph Glingener stated: “Service providers have informed us that the decision to adopt Wi-Fi 7 has been made. The real challenge lies in how to deploy it widely and consistently. Competitive pressure is accelerating the standardization of Wi-Fi 7, as providers seek to deliver high-quality experiences to all user groups, not just premium users. Our SDG 8700 series enables large-scale deployment of Wi-Fi 7, offering a clear evolutionary path from traditional gateways to next-generation home experiences while maintaining consistency in provisioning, configuration, management, and support.”
Adtran’s expanded SDG 8700 series includes its third-generation dual-band and tri-band Wi-Fi 7 gateways. The new devices support 2.5GbE and 10GbE connectivity options and offer optional voice configurations. Built on Adtran’s SmartOS platform, these gateways operate within a unified software environment shared across the SDG product portfolio, simplifying upgrades, testing, and operational support. Native support for Intellifi®, TR-369, and Plume provides service providers with flexibility to integrate their preferred user experience platforms while maintaining consistent operations, streamlined lifecycle management, and long-term platform continuity in residential networks.
Adtran’s General Manager of User Solutions, Eric Presworsky, commented: “Internal home connectivity is undoubtedly a key area defining the broadband experience, which means platforms must achieve clear evolution between technological generations and deployment scenarios. The expansion of our SDG 8700 series reflects a broader product portfolio strategy centered on scalable open platforms, software continuity, operational flexibility, and consistency. By standardizing Wi-Fi 7 across all service tiers today, we are helping providers modernize at their own pace while building a solid, stable foundation for future broadband innovation.”
