Anthropic Signs $45 Billion AI Computing Power Agreement with Nscale

Anthropic has signed a computing power lease agreement worth approximately $45 billion with UK AI infrastructure company Nscale, according to informed sources to TechCrunch. Nscale was founded in 2024 and has previously reached deals with companies such as Microsoft to provide computing power to Anthropic using Nvidia’s latest Vera Rubin chip system. The Vera Rubin system integrates six different chips to work together and is considered a cutting-edge technology in chip design. The computing power is expected to begin providing support for the services of the AI laboratory by the end of 2027.

The transaction was first reported by Bloomberg and is the latest in Anthropic’s series of computing power partnerships. The agreement is for a period of six years, and the computing power comes from Nscale’s flagship data center located in West Virginia. Over the past eight months, Anthropic has been actively expanding its computing power to better compete with its competitors, especially OpenAI.

Earlier this month, Anthropic signed a $10 billion agreement with Volta, an AI cloud startup founded in January this year, to obtain a six-year cloud computing power supply from a data center in Norway. In July, the company also signed a $5 billion computing power related agreement with AMD. In May, Anthropic announced a large-scale computing power deal with SpaceX, obtaining computing power from two SpaceX data centers and reportedly providing $1.25 billion in computing power per month. In April, Anthropic also signed an agreement with Amazon to gain an additional 5 gigawatts of computing power, while expanding its partnerships with Google and Broadcom.

Anthropic is not the only company actively pursuing more AI computing power. Major players, including Google, OpenAI, and Meta, are competing to acquire as much computing power as possible.
