AT&T Partners with Ericsson to Deploy 600 MHz Spectrum Accelerating Network Modernization

AT&T is collaborating with Ericsson to deploy its newly acquired 600 MHz spectrum and provide services to customers. Ericsson’s advanced wireless equipment enables AT&T to leverage this spectrum to enhance its wireless network and improve users’ daily experience.

The 600 MHz spectrum acquired by AT&T from EchoStar is particularly valuable, as it travels farther and provides stronger indoor coverage compared to certain higher-frequency bands. This helps customers stay connected in more locations—home, office, on the road—and across both urban and rural areas.

Customer Experience Progress

AT&T’s wireless network modernization project has been completed over 60%, significantly improving customer experience. In areas where Ericsson infrastructure has been upgraded, AT&T customers can now experience:

The average speed is improved by up to twice

Call reliability has improved, with call drops and call blocking reduced by 10%.

The low-speed data generation frequency is reduced by up to 70%.

By standardizing rooftop equipment for base stations, customers may experience uplink interference reduced by up to 80%.

These upgrades aim to help the largest wireless networks in the U.S. carry more data, respond faster, and maintain customer connections more stably as wireless traffic grows.

Enhanced Performance for the AI Era

Through an open and competitive process, Ericsson was selected as the supplier for 600 MHz dual-band wireless devices, enabling AT&T to deploy uplink-enhanced 8RX technology for the first time in the low-frequency band. This initiative not only meets future connectivity demands but also strengthens the network to support AI-driven content creation, sharing, and real-time interaction.

This initiative is also built upon the previously announced collaboration between AT&T and Ericsson to accelerate Open RAN deployment.
