Bhutan Telecom Collaborates with Ciena to Enhance Network

Ciena routers will help meet bandwidth requirements, simplify network infrastructure, and improve customer experience.

As a leading telecom and Internet service provider in the Kingdom of Bhutan, Bhutan Telecom is deploying Ciena’s consistent routing solution to support the booming traffic demand. With Ciena’s 5164, 8110, and 8114 routers, Bhutan Telecom will improve customer experience, especially as its customers transition to new technologies such as edge cloud applications.

Karma Tshewang, Technical Director of Bhutan Telecom, said, “After the pandemic, local communities continue to work, entertain, and utilize digital content from the comfort of their homes. We also see that many tourists have regained interest in this happiest country in the world. Hyperconnectivity will change gaming rules and help Bhutan transform into a digital society. We are working with Ciena to improve connectivity and reduce latency.”

Ciena’s 5164, 8110, and 8114 coherent routers were remotely deployed, tested, and launched by Ciena Services, which also customized the supplier’s network design. Developed specifically for places with limited space, Ciena’s 5164 router is perfect for inland Bhutan, while Ciena’s temperature hardened 8114 router is suitable for Bhutan experiencing different temperatures. In addition, through the 8110 coherent aggregation router, Bhutan Telecom can help reduce network latency and improve user experience quality.

Amit Malik, Vice President and Sales Director of Ciena India and South Asia, said, “Market dynamics are accelerating the drive for cloud computing and residential connectivity, jointly driving the demand for modernizing IP networks to leverage these new opportunities. With Ciena’s dedicated coherent routers, Bhutan Telecom is improving customer experience and consolidating its position as a leading provider.”
