Ciena Supports Clot to Launch Long-distance Network in Japan

Ciena announced that Colt Technology Services (Colt) can now use Ciena’s industry-leading coherent technology to run high-capacity services over a long distance of more than 500 kilometers.
With Ciena’s 6500 reconfigurable line system (RLS), Waveserver 5 compact interconnection platform supported by WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optics and management, control and planning (MCP) domain controller, this upgrade has more than doubled the network capacity of Colt.

Masato Hoshino, representative president of Colt and head of Asia, said: “We continue to improve the services on the Colt IQ network so that we can better respond to the explosive traffic demand in Japan and promote faster service launch. The Colt IQ network aims to provide high bandwidth and on-demand connectivity. Through cooperation with the industry pioneer Ciena, we will continue to fulfill this commitment.”
With the Ciena 6500 RLS, Colt can simplify deployment, operation and troubleshooting through built-in tools, such as zero contact provisioning, network automatic discovery, and real-time network monitoring and visibility. Automatic calibration also enhances network adaptability. In addition, since RLS integrates L-band amplification and ASE noise loading, the upgrade has no impact on the existing C-band traffic, and there is no need to visit or change the line amplification site, so as to achieve stable and uninterrupted service startup.

This upgrade of Colt IQ network continues a previous milestone. At that time, Colt cooperated with Ciena to become the first Japanese provider of 600G wavelength transmission service in long-distance on-site network.
