Earthquake Causes Advanced Chip Line Shutdown, TSMC Evaluates Impact
Chipmaker TSMC said on Tuesday that all its factories have resumed operations after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake in southern Taiwan, China, China, which caused only minor damage and minor injuries.

TSMC is a major manufacturer of advanced chips and a major supplier to companies such as Apple and Nvidia. The company said it had evacuated workers from some factories in central and southern Taiwan, China just after midnight on Tuesday, just in case of the earthquake.
TSMC stated in an email statement, “All factories have completed structural inspections after the earthquake, confirmed structural safety, and operations are gradually recovering. Currently, water supply, electricity, and workplace safety systems are operating normally, and all TSMC factories are operating. Detailed inspections and impact assessments are underway.”
TSMC’s construction site had no effect and continued to operate normally after undergoing environmental safety inspections.
Another wafer foundry company, United Microelectronics Corporation, stated that it has cleaned up its factories and has not suffered significant losses. UMC stated in a statement that the company is still inspecting these facilities and assessing the condition of its chip manufacturing equipment.
