Ericsson and Google Cloud Collaborate to Provide AI Based 5G Core Services
Ericsson announced the launch of Ericsson On Demand, a true Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that provides core network services for Communication Service Providers (CSPs).
The platform is designed by Google Cloud, leveraging artificial intelligence infrastructure and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and managed end-to-end by Ericsson. This solution will help CSPs quickly establish and expand core network services, reduce operating costs, and gain business flexibility through a fully hosted cloud native platform.
As CSP faces increasing pressure for rapid innovation and increasingly complex operational environments, Ericsson On Demand provides a complete transformation in agility and efficiency. The platform can deploy a complete kernel within minutes, expand up and down as needed, and allow CSPs to only pay for the portion they use. Customers do not need to worry about managing underlying infrastructure.

Key features of Ericsson on demand
Minute level configuration: Quickly start core network services without lengthy deployment cycles.
Elastic scaling: Instantly expand capacity to meet peak demand without the need for upfront capital expenditure or excessive allocation.
High cost-effectiveness and transparent pricing: Based on usage billing, there is no need for infrastructure or licensing fees.
The ability to innovate quickly: enabling CSP to innovate at the speed of the cloud and achieve global expansion.
Full custody operation: supported by Ericsson’s 24/7 on-site reliability engineering (SRE) team, utilizing artificial intelligence assisted troubleshooting and lifecycle automation to further reduce resolution time and operational costs.
Built in security and control: geo restricted deployment, Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies, and cloud native firewall.
Advantages
This platform from Ericsson developers who have been providing mobile connectivity to billions of users worldwide. And it is on top of Google Cloud, combining carrier grade reliability with public cloud flexibility. The platform utilizes GKE to simplify and enhance network availability, and leverages Google Cloud’s full stack artificial intelligence infrastructure, which is available on 42 cloud regions and over 2 million kilometers of land and submarine cables worldwide. This will enable CSPs to operate with the resilience, availability, and compliance expected by their customers.
Ericsson On Demand also helps CSPs gradually add new features to the current system without causing any downtime. The architecture of its security design meets evolving compliance and sovereignty requirements, providing global deployment options.
Whether it’s enabling wide area enterprise networks, accelerating fixed wireless access (FWA) deployments, or testing new markets, on-demand platforms enable CSPs to move from ideas to action at an unprecedented speed.
Eric Parsons, Vice President and Head of Emerging Business Unit for Ericsson Cloud Software and Services, said: ‘Ericsson On Demand is not just a product, it’s a driver.’. Today’s Chief Technology Officers must act quickly, intelligently expand, and lead organizations into new business areas. On Demand eliminates the risks and complexities that hinder them. It endows them with agility beyond market changes, confidence in innovation, and insight into seizing previously unattainable opportunities. Choosing an on-demand platform is a powerful signal of leadership and a commitment to future growth readiness. ”
Muninder Singh Sambi, Vice President and General Manager of Network and Security at Google Cloud, said, “With Ericsson On Demand on Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure, CSPs can quickly deploy 5G core networks and explore new sources of revenue. This partnership with Ericsson is not just about technical cooperation. It is also about creating AI driven telecommunications networks for our customers. ”
