Ericsson Extends Collaboration with Eastlink
Ericsson has announced an extension of its 10-year partnership with Eastlink, which will strengthen the 5G mobile network services of hundreds of communities served by Eastlink. After Eastlink launched its high-performance and energy-efficient wireless access network (RAN) 5G network last year, Ericsson will begin providing 3500MHz intermediate frequency radio and enhanced core network support to support voice and data.
Eastlink CEO Jeff Gillham said, “Eastlink is committed to ensuring that our customers have access to the latest technology and services for their online work and life, no matter where they are. Continuing to collaborate with global industry leader Ericsson will help us provide customers with a comprehensive next-generation 5G experience.”
Eastlink launched a 5G network supported by Ericsson technology in March 2022 and launched the first batch of sites in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since then, the two companies have been collaborating to establish a strong 5G infrastructure, which will help transform the industry and greatly improve the daily experience of their customers. As part of the newly expanded partnership, the two companies will activate Eastlink’s 3500MHz spectrum, which will further enhance coverage, reduce latency, and provide faster speeds.
Jeanette Irekvist, President of Ericsson Canada, said, “5G has the ability to change our lives and business, and our long-term partnership helps ensure that Donglian’s customers receive world-class 5G technology. We are proud to continue our journey, providing innovative and enhanced experiences in the coming years through a strong, reliable, and sustainable next-generation network.”
As the first company in Canada to completely abandon old 3G technology and make way for the most advanced 5G network functionality, Eastlink has invested nearly $500 million since its establishment in 2013 to develop its mobile services across Canada.
