Ericsson Thailand Committed to Promoting Thailand’s Digital Transformation

Ericsson Thailand has announced its ambitious vision to drive Thailand’s digital transformation based on its strong 5G infrastructure created in Thailand. With its most advanced 5G network solutions and extensive experience and expertise in establishing efficient, reliable, and sustainable 5G networks worldwide, Ericsson is ready to play a crucial role in accelerating Thailand’s transformation into a digital economy.

One of the cornerstones of Ericsson’s Thailand plan is the newly built 5G Innovation and Experience Studio in Thailand’s Digital Valley, which was established in collaboration with the Royal Thai Government through the Digital Economy Promotion Authority (DEPA).

This laboratory aims to serve as a collaborative space for 5G creation, featuring Ericsson’s state-of-the-art 5G sandbox network. It will be used to collaborate with global partners in the development, testing, validation, and certification of new 5G use cases.

The Innovation Laboratory showcased several cutting-edge 5G use cases, including Automated Mobile Robots (AMR), automated production machines in collaboration with Mitsubishi, and 360 degree wearable closed-circuit television cameras. These innovations demonstrate the transformative potential of 5G technology in various industries.

Ericsson Thailand is willing to further collaborate with key stakeholders in the ecosystem from both public and private sectors, including partners, end-users, academia, and others, to develop new 5G use cases for the industry.

Anders Rian, President of Ericsson Thailand, said, “5G is an innovative platform that provides new services to consumers, businesses, and industries. We will continue to work towards promoting partnerships and innovation to ensure that Thailand fully benefits from a strong and sustainable 5G network. We hope that the 5G Innovation and Experience Studio in Thailand’s Digital Valley will encourage new innovative use cases in Thailand and fully utilize the full potential of 5G. By collaborating with other ecosystem participants, we will drive digital transformation to benefit the Thai people, economy, and country.”

According to the recently released Ericsson Mobile report, the 5G users in Southeast Asia and Oceania are expected to reach approximately 560 million by the end of 2029. As of the end of 2023, there were 61 million 5G users in Southeast Asia. Driven by more affordable 5G devices, promotional plans, and big data packages from service providers, the 5G user base in the region continues to grow as users migrate to 5G. By the end of 2029, 5G mobile users are expected to account for 43% of all mobile users in the region. It is expected that by 2029, the data traffic per smartphone user in Southeast Asia will increase from 17GB/month in 2023 to 42GB/month.

It is expected that 5G will become the dominant mobile access technology calculated by user before the end of the prediction period. Although 5G population coverage is growing, 5G IF is only deployed in about 25% of all stations in the world outside Chinese Mainland. The 5G intermediate frequency spectrum provides an optimal point between coverage and capacity, while improving user experience.

The June 2024 Ericsson Mobile report showed sustained strong growth in 5G users. At present, there are about 300 CSPs worldwide providing 5G services, of which about 50 have launched 5G independent (5G SA). 5G is continuing to grow in all regions and is expected to account for around 60% of all mobile users by the end of 2029. Ericsson is a global leader in the 5G field, currently providing support for 162 5G networks in 69 countries worldwide.
