Fujitsu’s Optical Network Business Operates Independently, Finity Officially Sets Sail
According to foreign media reports, Fujitsu Group’s optical transmission and wireless business units will be put into operation under the new brand “1Finity” starting today. This measure is an important strategic deployment of Fujitsu’s mid-term management plan to achieve net positive value through digital services by 2030.
Although 1Finity made its debut as a brand name, the name has previously been used for Fujitsu’s optical transmission product line. The newly established wholly-owned subsidiary will integrate Fujitsu’s global network related businesses, covering optical transmission equipment, O-RAN compliant 5G base station equipment and related software (Virtuora series), while retaining 6G research and development functions. The company promises to provide full process optimization services from research and development, manufacturing to operation and maintenance.
1Finity can help customers quickly respond to market changes by integrating innovative technology, software expertise, and intelligent AI analysis to deliver innovative products in a timely manner. Finity CEO Masaaki Moribayashi said. Fujitsu emphasized that this restructuring aims to “clarify management responsibilities, accelerate decision-making processes, and drive global business growth”.
Business integration is fully underway
According to the restructuring plan, Fujitsu will transfer all functions of network product development, manufacturing, sales, implementation support (design, construction), maintenance, and operation to 1Finity. About 4000 employees, including telecommunications operator personnel from Fujitsu Network Solutions Co., Ltd., will be transferred to the new company.
At the same time, four subsidiary companies of the group and their affiliated companies will gradually merge into 1Finity after July 2025: Fujitsu Telecommunications Network Co., Ltd., Fujitsu Network Services Engineering Co., Ltd., Mobile Techno Co., Ltd., and Fujitsu Network Communications Co., Ltd. Fujitsu specifically stated that “each subsidiary will continue to provide existing products and services after integration,” but the specific time for renaming has not yet been determined.
Three major strategic directions
As an independent brand, 1Finity will focus on three major development priorities: business growth and expansion, enhancing competitiveness, and exploring new opportunities.
In terms of market expansion, 1Finity will focus on entering the European and Asian markets while consolidating its market share in Japan and North America, while also targeting the rapidly growing cloud infrastructure sector. On a technical level, the company will launch new optical data transmission products and virtual wireless access network (vRAN) software using GPUs, achieving intelligent management of the entire process of research and development, manufacturing, and operation through AI technology, and strengthening cost competitiveness.
For future technological layout, 1Finity will leverage innovative technologies such as AI, 6G, and all-optical wireless networks (IOWN) to explore new businesses. By strengthening software product development and partner collaboration, 1Finity will enrich Fujitsu’s product portfolio and achieve growth in new areas. The company statement specifically mentions it.
This business restructuring is seen as a key step in Fujitsu’s transformation into a ‘digital service technology company’. Analysts point out that the independent operation model will provide greater decision-making flexibility for network businesses and help them seize the opportunity in the fiercely competitive global communication equipment market. With the deployment of 5G and the acceleration of 6G research and development, the establishment of 1Finity may become an important turning point for Fujitsu’s technological roadmap adjustment.
