Google Plans to Provide 13 Billion Euros to Finnish Data Centers

Google plans to invest 13 billion euros (approximately 15 billion US dollars) in Finland over the next two years for the construction of AI related digital infrastructure, including data centers and related supporting investments in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala.

According to the search giant, this will be Google’s largest single investment in Europe so far. These planned facilities are added to Google’s existing Hamina data center, which was converted from a paper mill acquired by Google in 2009. Google stated that after the new facility is put into operation, it will support 7000 jobs per year, including both jobs directly related to data centers and jobs in local stores, restaurants, and other places.

Elisa, the Finnish operator providing network connectivity for the existing Hamina data center, has signed a contract to continue providing the same connectivity services for the new facility.
