NEC Completes Construction of New Asia Pacific Submarine Cable

NEC Corporation announced to complete the construction of the Asia Through Cable (ADC). That is a high-performance submarine cable connecting China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Achievement

The ADC submarine cable is owned by the ADC Alliance and has multiple pairs of high-capacity optical fibers. It is to carry over 160 Tbps of traffic, enabling high-capacity data transmission across East Asia and Southeast Asia.

This new optical cable is the latest intra Asian cable connecting China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Japan, and Singapore in the past eight years. It is a significant achievement. Because it provides the necessary infrastructure to support the growing transportation demand in the region. Also it opens up new avenues for the future of communication and society.

Remarks

Koji Ishii, Chairman of ADC Alliance MC, said, “This new fiber optic cable marks an important milestone. And it provides a crucial foundation to support the growing communication needs in Asia and around the world. This milestone represents the culmination of our efforts to overcome numerous challenges, achieved through steadfast cooperation and partnerships with respected stakeholders from various countries, including NEC. We believe that this fiber optic cable system will make significant contributions to the development of the artificial intelligence industry in Asia.”

Billy Li, Co Chairman of ADC Alliance MC, said: “NEC has won the trust of its customers. And the alliance is very satisfied with the successful completion of this cable. It provides the largest cable capacity and necessary diversity for major information centers in Asia, enabling telecommunications operators and service providers to optimize their network and service planning for sustainable growth.”

NEC’s Senior Vice President Tomonori Uematsu said, “NEC is honored to participate in this prestigious project. And the project will support bandwidth intensive applications driven by technological advancements such as 5G, cloud, IoT, and artificial intelligence. We thank the consortium for their partnership and for helping us break through the boundaries of numerous challenges. That makes this project a success.”

Conclusion

For over 60 years, NEC has been a leading supplier of submarine fiber optic cable systems. It has built over 400000 kilometers of cables spanning nearly 10 times the length of the Earth. As a system integrator, NEC is a reliable partner in the field of submarine cables. Because it provides various aspects of submarine cable operations. They includes the manufacturing and installation of submarine cables and repeaters, providing ocean surveys and route design, training, and delivery testing. And the submarine optical cable produced by NEC’s subsidiary OCC can withstand water pressure at depths exceeding 8000 meters in the ocean.
