Nokia and Globe Telecom in Philippines Reduce Network Power Consumption
Recently, Nokia announced that its AVA energy efficiency software has been selected by Philippine communication service provider Globe Telecom, and will be delivered in SaaS delivery mode to help reduce network power consumption and costs.
Nokia Energy SaaS AVA uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to enable Globe to automatically shut down idle and unused devices during low usage periods. This solution provides these operational and cost advantages while maintaining network quality.
Deploying this solution through the Software as a Service (SaaS) model will allow Globe to fully utilize the solution on demand through subscription, enabling faster service delivery and value realization. This model also eliminates a significant amount of upfront capital expenditure and avoids the need to perform on-site software maintenance and updates.
Globe achieved an annual power savings of 3-6% by using Nokia’s AVA energy efficiency software and wireless access network’s power saving function.
As operators increasingly seek to reduce energy costs and address environmental sustainability issues in their networks, Nokia has collaborated with CSPs on over 50 energy-saving projects worldwide.
Nokia APJ Cloud and Network Services Market Leader Susanna Patja stated: “As CSPs increase their efforts to coordinate network efficiency and environmental goals, the importance of network energy consumption issues for CSPs will only continue to increase. Nokia is pleased to support Global Telecom’s efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the telecommunications industry. Nokia AVA for Energy SaaS not only represents our strategic potential in using artificial intelligence to unleash the network, but also represents Nokia’s commitment to reducing emissions throughout the entire value chain.”
“We are very pleased to expand our partnership with Nokia through the AVA for Energy SaaS solution. Efficient energy consumption is a strategic requirement of our network decarbonization initiative and net zero goal. Deploying this solution will help reduce power costs without affecting customer experience, “said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of Globe Group.
