Nokia Collaborates with Extreme Broadband to Enhance Data Center Security

The cooperation

Nokia announced that it has signed a contract agreement with Extreme Broadband (EBB) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Open DC to upgrade Open DC’s artificial intelligence (AI) data center, ensuring excellent security and network performance. This cooperation not only supports Malaysia’s national cloud computing policy, but also meets the strict security and performance requirements of the banking and financial services industries, further establishing the innovative position of EBB and Open DC in the national digital infrastructure field.

According to the contract, EBB will adopt Nokia’s IP network solution to interconnect six AI data centers, covering Saicheng CJ1, Johor Bahru JB1 Menara MSC Cyber and JB2 Menara Ansar, Penang PE1 Menara Suntech and PE2 Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, as well as the upcoming D8-1 in Kedah, to build a more reliable, secure, and high-performance network. This deployment aims to create a resilient, secure, and reliable network, which aligns with EBB’s vision of “innovative connectivity” and Open DC’s mission of “building a connectivity hub in the most strategic location”.

In addition, Nokia has signed a memorandum of understanding with EBB to collaborate in the fields of data center solutions and quantum secure networks (QSN). The two companies jointly developed a joint market entry strategy for data center and AI connectivity, providing tenants with QSN, enterprise connectivity, and value-added services, including multi cloud connectivity, distributed denial of service (DDoS) threat protection and mitigation. Both parties will also jointly test and validate data center gateways, data center fabrics, event driven automation (EDA) tools, as well as DDoS protection and mitigation solutions.

Remarks from both sides

Wong Weng Yew, Managing Director of Open DC, stated, “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to being the first to apply cutting-edge technology, creating exceptional value for our customers, and driving Malaysia’s economic growth under MYDIGITAL policy guidance. Nokia’s solution will significantly enhance our security, scalability, and sustainability, enabling us to build a connectivity hub that supports AI driven innovation and creates new revenue opportunities for businesses.”

Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks for Nokia Asia Pacific, said, “Nokia has become a trusted partner for global data center enterprises, supporting them in building digital infrastructure that meets their security and high-performance network needs. This collaboration with Extreme Broadband will help us play a greater role in Malaysia’s rapidly growing data center market. Our field proven IP solutions enable data center operators to achieve unparalleled reliability and scalability, while efficiently responding to evolving demands. This deployment will enable Open DC to leverage our data center switching, automation, and quantum secure network technologies to provide customers with key competitive advantages. “

Nokia’s data center Fabric, data center gateway, and quantum secure network solutions will be used to modernize and upgrade Open DC data centers to meet the evolving needs of enterprises and ensure long-term scalability and security. Nokia’s proven 7250 interconnect router and 7220 interconnect router are also included in the overall solution, further improving network energy efficiency.
