One Communications and Ericsson Launched 5G in Bermuda

One Communications and Ericsson have launched their first commercial 5G network in Bermuda, which is also one of the first 5G deployments in the Caribbean region, with initial deployment covering 75% of the island’s geographical location. In the first stage, 5G networks were launched in the capital city of Hamilton and gradually extended to other regions.
As a leader in the deployment of fifth generation mobile network technology in the Caribbean region, One Communications is leveraging Ericsson wireless systems and Ericsson cloud core products and solutions, including packet core, strategy, and unified data management, to promise to improve mobile user experience and promote Bermuda’s digital transformation.

5G performance will continue to expand across the island in stages based on capacity and traffic requirements. 5G Non Independent deployment is supported by the existing 4G infrastructure network launched in 2016, enabling faster, easier, and more efficient 5G deployment.
Niall Sheehy, CEO of One Communications, said, “We are proud to collaborate with Ericsson to bring this advanced network to Bermuda. Our commitment to innovation and excellence is at the core of this project. By leveraging Ericsson’s world-class technology, we not only enhance our existing services, but also lay the foundation for Bermuda’s future technological progress and digital transformation.”
The launch of 5G is not only a technological leap, but also a proof of the company’s unwavering commitment to Bermuda. We are proud to hire over 100 locals and actively participate in various community and charity activities.
“Introducing 5G in Bermuda is a crucial step for Ericsson and One Communications to drive technological progress in the country. As a strategic partner, we are committed to connecting communities with fast, reliable, and resilient internet connectivity, paving the way for a new era of digital progress,” said Chafic Nassif, CEO of Ericsson LATAM North
5G is creating new opportunities for people and businesses. Faster connections, ultra-low latency, and higher bandwidth are the characteristics of this new technology, which is changing society, industry, and improving daily experiences.
Ericsson has a history of 125 years in Latin America, developing infrastructure and providing telecommunications services. Currently, Ericsson is providing support for 157 real-time 5G networks in 66 countries worldwide.
Ericsson estimates that by the end of 2023, nearly one-fifth of global mobile users will be 5G users. The statistical data was published in the November 2023 edition of the Ericsson Mobile Report, which estimates that there will be 610 million new 5G users in 2023, an increase of 63% from 2022. In Latin America, it is expected that there will be approximately 28 million 5G users by the end of 2023, and 5G will account for 51% of all mobile users in the region by the end of 2029.
