PLDT Collaborates with Nokia to Create 5G Dedicated Wireless Networks for Enterprises

According to reports, Philippine telecommunications operator PLDT has hired Nokia to provide 5G dedicated wireless network solutions for its corporate customers. As the company continues to strive to acquire new users in all segmented markets, it will further expand its influence in the lucrative corporate market.

Local media reported that Nokia has signed a memorandum of understanding with PLDT’s corporate business unit to provide 5G dedicated wireless network solutions to businesses across the country, especially in the manufacturing, mining, and port industries.

The goal is to help these companies improve their customer experience and operational efficiency.

So far, Nokia has deployed 5G networks to over 730 customers worldwide, building high bandwidth and low latency solutions for multiple industries.

Joseph Ian Gendrano, Senior Vice President and Corporate Head of PLDT, stated in a statement to local media, “Our collaboration with Nokia enables Filipino businesses to experience ultra reliable low latency communication, faster data transfer speeds, and the ability to connect to a large number of devices simultaneously.”

Through its latest collaboration with Nokia, PLDT aims to help enterprise customers build dedicated, secure, high bandwidth, and ultra-low latency networks for real-time Industry 4.0 applications.

He added, “This means enhancing the ability for real-time data analysis, remote monitoring, and device control, which is crucial for automating industrial processes and improving operational efficiency.”

PLDT has seen enormous revenue potential in its corporate division, which brought in 12.1 billion Philippine pesos ($2055.8 million) in the first quarter of 2024, compared to 11.8 billion Philippine pesos ($2005.8 million) a year ago.

Most of the revenue of operators comes from enterprise data. From January to March this year, due to the increasing usage of network connections by commercial customers, the company earned 8.6 billion Philippine pesos ($146.18 million) from this portion of its business.

Nokia has been performing well in the Philippines in the past few weeks. This Finnish network equipment supplier has also been selected by Globe Telecom to provide a Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) to replace the operator’s traditional assets. The upgrade of network infrastructure will enable Globe Telecom to integrate fixed and wireless access.
