StarHub and Nokia Collaborate on Network APIs
StarHub
StarHub is one of the largest operators in Singapore, with over 2 million users. The company has partnered with Nokia on network APIs. The purpose is to support StarHub’s mission of creating new revenue opportunities for its customers and monetizing its network assets. The two companies will work together to help developers create 5G and 4G applications, such as the device status and service quality required by banks, finance, ports, and other vertical enterprises.

Using Nokia’s network as a code platform and developer portal, StarHub will enable developers to access its network functionalities and create software applications that can run on its 5G and 4G networks. This platform provides developers with standardized access to network functions through APIs without the need to browse underlying network technologies.
StarHub Chief Technology Officer Ayush Sharma said, “We are pleased to deepen our partnership with Nokia to provide developers with simplified and improved experiences. Providing developers with more attractive network API options is crucial for unlocking the full value of 5G and 4G networks in Singapore and beyond.”
StarHub has been actively supporting industry efforts through GSMA Open Gateway and Linux Foundation CAMARA to define new technical standards for APIs that developers can use to create new use cases for their clients. Nokia has made contributions to both GSMA Open Gateway and CAMARA.
Nokia
Nokia has an ecosystem of over 45 partners worldwide, including British Telecom Orange, Telefónica and Telefónica Argentina, these partners use their networks as code platforms. Nokia’s partners extend far beyond the operator base, including mega scale operators such as Google Cloud, communication platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) platform providers (including Infobip), large system integrators, and vertical independent software vendors.
“Nokia’s approach to network APIs reflects a strategic focus on driving new business models that unleash the potential that 5G and 4G networks can provide from the perspectives of innovation, sustainability, collaboration, and productivity,” said Shkumbin Hamiti, Head of Network Monetization Platform, Cloud, and Network Services at Nokia. “With this partnership, StarHub will have more choices and flexibility to create new value for customers.”
Nokia’s network APIs strategy revolves around connecting multiple API ecosystems through its network as a code platform. By providing the widest range of network options for operators, coupled with powerful multi-layer API security, the platform ensures that operators of all sizes can provide developers with simplified network function access.
