Taiwan Export of Chip Manufacturing Equipment to US Changed Dramatically
According to Bloomberg, as the US government tries to revitalize the domestic semiconductor industry, the equipment imported by the US from Taiwan, China for manufacturing computer chips rose to a record level in March.
According to the data of Taiwan, China’s financial department, Taiwan, China is the world’s advanced chip manufacturing center. In March, the export of chip manufacturing equipment to the United States increased 42.6% year on year, reaching a new high of 71.3 million dollars. On the other hand, equipment exports to Chinese Mainland plummeted by 33.7%, the ninth consecutive month of decline.
The efforts of the United States to restrict Chinese Mainland’s access to key semiconductor equipment, technologies and products began to decentralize the chip supply chain. The decline of Taiwan, China’s chip equipment exports to Chinese Mainland is a sign.
As the United States strengthens trade restrictions on advanced chip technology, in 2022, the exports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment from the United States and Japan to Chinese Mainland will decline for the first time in three years. According to data, in the quarter from October to December, Japan’s exports of such equipment to Chinese Mainland fell by 16% year on year, while the United States dropped by 50% and the Netherlands by 44%.
According to Chinese media reports, the import volume of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in China decreased by 15% throughout 2022, to $34.7 billion, the first decline in three years. This downward trend continued until 2023, with total imports in January and February decreasing by 21% year-on-year, while semiconductor imports decreased by about a quarter.
