Telkomsel Collaborates with Ericsson to Use 5G to Livestream Indonesia’s Independence Day
At the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration held in Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), Telkomsel and Ericsson collaborated to broadcast the celebration nationwide using advanced 5G independent (SA) technology and dedicated network slicing.
This is a bold opportunity to showcase the potential of 5G SA and network slicing technology, providing high-performance and ultra reliable experiences for the Indonesian people. Performing end-to-end network slicing on 5G standalone networks can enable broadcasters to provide services faster, more securely, and with higher quality, meeting broadcasting needs. By utilizing network slicing technology, Telkomsel can effectively utilize and manage network resources, and provide large-scale differentiated services.
The combination of 5G SA functions with network exposure, automation, edge computing and network slicing is increasing the risk of 5G service delivery – making the network more programmable, decomposing traffic at the edge of the network, and providing differentiated connections while ensuring quality of service. Telkomsel also supports the implementation of smart cities driven by Ericsson’s 5G RAN and dual-mode 5G core technology in IKN.
Denny Setiawan, Director of Spectrum Policy and Planning at Kemkominfo RI, stated, “The collaboration between Telkomsel as an operator and Ericsson as a supplier in the 5G Independent (5G SA) technology trial in the New Capital (IKN) is a strategic step that aligns with Kemkominfo’s commitment to accelerate the digital transformation of various industrial sectors in Indonesia. Kemkominfo hopes that this initiative will support the government’s vision to accelerate the development of digital infrastructure, thereby consolidating Indonesia’s position as a leading digital economy. By testing 5G SA technology in the 700 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands, we are optimistic that this technology will improve the quality of mobile broadband services, promote the development of smart city use cases, and lay a solid foundation for the development of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem.”
Indra Mardiatna, Network Director of Telkomsel, stated, “As a leading digital telecommunications service provider in Indonesia, Telkomsel remains steadfast in its commitment to providing top-notch communication services to the Indonesian people. The ongoing collaboration with infrastructure and technology partners Ericsson and Qualcomm is a crucial step in expanding 5G technology in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN). This partnership plays a crucial role in Telkomsel’s 5G implementation, particularly in achieving 5G independent (SA) functionality, which will not only provide consumers with innovative digital services but also support the deployment of smart city applications in IKN. These efforts align with Telkomsel’s vision and mission to empower the nation by advancing technology, driving innovation, and supporting government initiatives to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.”
Krishna Patil, Head of Ericsson Indonesia, said, “Telkomsel and Ericsson have a long-term and valuable partnership. We are pleased to showcase the latest 5G technology, as well as our advanced network slicing and dual-mode 5G core capabilities, with Telkomsel and Qualcomm at IKN. This is part of Ericsson’s commitment to supporting Telkomsel’s 5G evolution journey. Through this collaboration, our goal is to support Indonesia’s digital initiatives and accelerate the country’s realization of the ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’ vision.”
Shandy Ong, regional director of Qualcomm Indonesia, said, “Qualcomm is proud to work with Telkomsel to promote 5G independent technology for IKN. Through our joint efforts, we are providing the super capacity, low latency and high-speed Internet of Qualcomm SDX65 modems. In addition, we are expanding our technology to smart phones and smart glasses through the third generation mobile platform of Snapdragon 8, the Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 and 5G mobile use cases. We will continue to support the digital transformation of Indonesia.”
Telkomsel and Ericsson also showcased 5G use cases at RTN, including smart city and smart government applications, as well as the company’s latest technologies and solutions.
