University of Tokyo Selects Juniper Products to Provide Wireless Network

Juniper Networks, the leader in the field of security and AI driven networks, announced that University of Tokyo, one of the most prestigious universities in Asia, has chosen the AP32 access point of Juniper Networks to provide a seamless and unified wireless experience for its campus, so as to achieve flexible management. These network upgrades will enable multiple departments of the University of Tokyo to provide high-speed wireless network infrastructure for 48000 students and teachers who actively participate in learning and research in 10 departments and 15 graduate schools.
Established in 1877, University of Tokyo is the first national university in Japan. As one of the world’s first-class universities, University of Tokyo has a glorious history. Among its alumni, there are 16 prime ministers, 13 Nobel Prize winners and 5 astronauts.

In order to cooperate with the Japanese government’s 10 trillion yen fund to develop a Research university that meets the world’s highest standards, the University of Tokyo announced the University of Tokyo Compass, which is a set of guiding principles aimed at cultivating world-class innovation and outstanding education and research in 2022 through dialogue, different views and experience.
The University of Tokyo Compass Initiative has prompted the University to strengthen its information and communication technology (ICT) strategy. This requires a comprehensive reassessment of the network infrastructure and modifications to its operations to promote active communication across all campus locations.
In this journey of change, the University of Tokyo has established a cross organizational University of Tokyo Wi Fi Working Group, focusing on enhancing wireless network infrastructure and strengthening its key role in improving the education and research experience of students and teachers. The team attaches great importance to establishing a reliable, secure, and high-performance wireless network that can accommodate a large number of users, and each person on each campus has multiple devices.
A main focus is to implement a network solution that provides unified management across all departments for teams from different departments, while granting them appropriate management privileges. This goal will be achieved through a single dashboard, thereby achieving a unified view of the entire network, as well as the ability to observe and visualize faults and user experiences. The solution of Juniper Networks is supported by Mist AI. It has a successful record in both local and global implementation. It has proved to be an ideal choice and meets all the requirements and standards of this change plan.

Juniper AP32 wireless access points are deployed in the three main parks of Hongjing, Xiaoye, and Baihua, successfully simplifying network management and operation for different departments, and providing them with a unified view of the entire network on a single dashboard driven by Mist AI. The team also utilized the rich API centric architecture of Juniper Mist, which can visualize the necessary data for each site to improve operational efficiency.
Since the implementation of Juniper wireless network, the experience of the school team and students has significantly improved. In addition, during peak usage, the network can seamlessly support the simultaneous connection of approximately 18000 devices. The expansion is gradually underway, with the goal of covering all campuses.
As the University of Tokyo looks to the future, it is actively exploring the potential integration of Mist AI in the entire network, aiming to establish it as a basic component of its it infrastructure.
Tamatsukuri Junji, associate professor of the Information System Department of the University of Tokyo, said: “Since its inception, the University of Tokyo has been committed to providing world-class research and education platforms. The network plays a vital role in promoting students and teachers to access important resources and actively communicate. An efficient and user-friendly network is equally important, enabling our team to quickly solve possible problems. With the wireless network supported by Juniper Networks, we can let everyone on campus experience The best connection and support to expand their potential for extraordinary achievements.”
Tomohiro Furuya, Vice President and Country Manager of Juniper Networks Japan, stated: “The University of Tokyo has Japan’s top schools of medicine, law and engineering, which is an important cornerstone of Japan’s innovation driven economy. We are honored to cooperate with Japan’s top universities to jointly promote the next stage of ICT transformation. We recognize that they need a wireless network to provide unified management and visibility of cross departmental and campus Wi Fi user experience. Through an experience oriented network, we can serve as their members Workers and students provide a seamless and closer campus experience. We look forward to how the university can further leverage the power of Mist AI in its network infrastructure to unleash unlimited possibilities and make significant progress, which will shape the future of knowledge and innovation in Japan.”
