Xiamen Telecom Completed First Commercial Verification of 5G Video Networking in China

Recently, Fujian Xiamen Telecom and Huawei completed the first nationwide commercial verification of RedCap video networking in Xiamen. This commercial application is mainly used in scenarios such as AI garbage classification based on 5G video networking, urban management intelligent law enforcement monitoring, etc. Through 5G Inside, we have accelerated the research and industrialization of lightweight 5G terminal scale applications, expanded the business scope of Tianyi Video Networking, and met the personalized needs of 5G customized network industry applications.
As the third version of the 5G standard, 3GPP R17 ushers in an innovation in medium speed field IoT technology. For medium speed and large-scale IoT scenarios, such as video surveillance, remote control, and intelligent operations, RedCap technology has been derived from current 5G technology by reducing terminal complexity and power consumption. RedCap has significant intergenerational advantages compared to 4G Cat1/Cat4, with higher performance and stronger functionality. It also supports 5G native capabilities such as slicing, positioning, and low latency, making it the best carrier for medium speed IoT in the future.

Tianyi Video Network is the fifth basic network of China Telecom, which mainly includes video applications for wide-area urban security monitoring and urban governance. Wide-area urban security monitoring is one of the important markets for RedCap, with a scale of billions. The introduction of RedCap modules can effectively reduce end-to-end costs, promote 5G large-scale applications, and improve market competitiveness. In the application of urban governance, relying on the large bandwidth and other capabilities of RedCap, it is widely used in non-contact law enforcement scenarios such as environmental inspections, ground waste detection, standardized behavior identification of garbage disposal points, and standardized operation identification of shops along the street, to assist Xiamen in the construction of a high-quality, high-quality, modern, and internationalized “two highs and two modernizations” city.
China Telecom and Huawei, as strategic partners, rely on their respective advantages to establish joint innovation teams in areas such as 5G customized network and Tianyi video networking. They actively explore 5G large-scale commercial technologies and solutions, jointly promote 5G integration and leadership, and work together to expand and strengthen video networking. The first commercial example of RedCap Video Networking this time relies on 5G native technology to reduce end-to-end costs, accelerate the development of 5G customized network scale, enhance the influence of 5G Inside, and build the differentiated competitiveness of Tianyi Video Networking.
As an important infrastructure of the digital economy, 5G will continue to empower thousands of industries. RedCap technology is about to become an important part of 5G end-to-end solutions, accelerating the expansion of the breadth and depth of 5G applications. China Telecom will continue to collaborate with ecological partners such as Huawei to accelerate the commercialization of RedCap applications in urban AI monitoring, cultural tourism and other scenarios, actively respond to the “5G+Smart Tourism” collaborative innovation development policy of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and improve the service level of “5G+Smart Tourism”. At the same time, synchronous exploration of deep applications in marine video replay and other scenarios helps to sustain the prosperity of the national marine economy, expand the scale of application scenario boundaries, and achieve a win-win situation for all parties.
